Signage Improves Safety
Like other parts of your building, your elevators and escalators need good signage so riders have the smoothest and safest trip possible. Don't overlook these important areas:
  • Signs directing escalator passengers to alternative elevator transportation.
  • Signs at each end of escalators, cautioning passengers to hold handrails, attend children and avoid the sides of the steps. These is an ASME-approved design for these signs, which are standard on all new escalators.
  • Braille and tactile floor number plates, on the car station and on the door jambs at each floor. These are an ADA requirement.
  • Signs at each hallway pushbutton station, cautioning passengers not to use elevators during fire emergencies.
