Escalator and Moving Walk Upgrades to Enhance Safety
Schindler is constantly working to develop further safety advances for escalators and moving walks. Many safety devices invented or pioneered by Schindler have become standard equipment on new installations, and many are now required by code.
Though most local code requirements provide for "grandfathering" of existing equipment, you should remain aware of safety advances that can be introduced into your installation. In many cases these upgrades can not only help improve safety and reduce liability exposure, but might streamline traffic handling or improve reliability and reduce trouble calls. EQIP® Upgrade Products Schindler has a comprehensive assortment of elevator and escalator upgrades called EQIP® (Elevator/Escalator Quality Improvement Products). Those listed here are just a sampling of those which can influence safety on escalators. Your Schindler representative can give you full details on any of these items, or others which address important areas such as dependability, security, accessibility (ADA) and appearance. Handrails
Clear, simple signs alerting passengers to safe riding practices can be installed at both ends of your escalators. Schindler offers ASME-approved signs which are now standard equipment on new escalators.
Speed Reduction
Most escalators run at 90 or 100 feet per minute, but some run as fast as 120 fpm. Some customers request that we lower the speed to accommodate those who may benefit from additional time to get situated on the escalator. We can modify many escalators to run at speeds as low as 50 fpm. |
